Mr Almallah, Consultant Urologist, Birmingham and Solihull Bladder Clinic, featured briefly in the March edition of leading women’s magazine “Prima”.
Mr Almallah was asked for a specialist opinion on the quantity of fluid to drink to treat cystitis at home whilst waiting to see a doctor. You should normally drink 1-2 litres of water a day (including other drinks), with up to 1 litre over three to six hours if you feel the symptoms of cystitis starting. Drinking a lot more than your body needs to satisfy your thirst in a short space of time can be potentially dangerous.
“To treat cystitis, adding 1tsp of bicarbonate of soda to a cup of water three times a day (for 24 hours only) will help too”, says Mr Almallah. For further information also visit www.cobfoundation.org.
